Gent

Gent i Belgien sprudlar av kultur av olika slag - för varje ålder och smak. Att röra sig runt i staden är som att resa genom historien. Ingen annan stad i Belgien har så många historiska monument som Gent. En stor del av dem står på UNESCOs världsarvslista.

Det finns fler än 400 historiska byggnader. Den mest imponerande är Sint-Baafs katedralen. I katedralen finns en ovärderlig konstskatt och den berömda tavlan Lammets tillbedjan målad av bröderna Van Eyck. Nära katedralen finns även det stora klocktornet med sina 43 klockor och en gyllene drake i toppen, som vaktar staden från djävlar. Borgen Gravensteen med sin vallgrav byggdes år 1180 och bör också besökas när man är i Gent!

Trier - Porta Nigra

The Porta Nigra (Latin for black gate) is a large Roman city gate in Trier, Germany. It is today the largest Roman city gate north of the Alps and has been designated a World Heritage Site.

The name Porta Nigra originated in the Middle Ages due to the darkened color of its stone; the original Roman name has not been preserved. Locals commonly refer to the Porta Nigra simply as Porta.

Grand-Place

Grand-Place eller Grote Markt (stora torget), är ett världsberömt torg i Belgiens huvudstad Bryssel. Det anlades under senmedeltiden.

Vid torget finns bl.a. Bryssels stadshus, uppfört 1402-1455, och ett flertal rikt utsmyckade gilles- och patricierpalats från sent 1600-tal.





La Grand-Place in Brussels is a remarkably homogeneous body of public and private buildings, dating mainly from the late 17th century. The architecture provides a vivid illustration of the level of social and cultural life of the period in this important political and commercial centre.

Atomium

A seminal totem in the Brussels skyline; neither tower, nor pyramid, a little bit cubic, a little bit spherical, half-way between sculpture and architecture, a relic of the past with a determinedly futuristic look, museum and exhibition centre; the Atomium is, at once, an object, a place, a space, a Utopia and the only symbol of its kind in the world, which eludes any kind of classification.

The Atomium was the main pavilion and icon of the World Fair of Brussels (1958), commonly called Expo 58. It symbolised the democratic will to maintain peace among all the nations, faith in progress, both technical and scientific and, finally, an optimistic vision of the future of a modern, new, super-technological world for a better life for mankind. — at Bruxelles/Brussel.

Bofferding

Beers to sink in Luxembourg include Bofferding, Diekirch, Mousel and Simon Pils, after which comes a host of local fruity white and sparkling wines. From 2008 you can enjoy all this in an untainted environment, thanks to recent legislation banning smoking in restaurants and, during dining hours, in cafés.

Brygge

Brygge (nederländska: Brugge, franska: Bruges, tyska: Brügge) är en stad i nordvästra Belgien. Brygge är den största staden och huvudstad i provinsen Västflandern som ligger i delstaten Flandern.

Två av stadens främsta sevärdheter är de båda gotiska tegelkyrkorna Sint Salvatorkerk och Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk. Den medeltida stadskärnan blev år 2000 upptagen på Unescos världsarvslista.

Cebu city

The Sinulog festival is one of the grandest and most colorful festivals in the Philippines with a very rich history. The main festival is held each year on the third Sunday of January in Cebu City to honor the Santo Niño, or the child Jesus, who used to be the patron saint of the whole province of Cebu (since in the Catholic faith Jesus is not a saint, but God). It is essentially a dance ritual which remembers the Filipino people’s pagan past and their acceptance of Christianity. Photo: Anders Thorsell

Burj Al Arab - Dubai

Burj Al Arab (Tower of the Arabs) is a luxury hotel located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. At 321 m, it is the fourth tallest hotel in the world. Burj Al Arab stands on an artificial island 280 m from Jumeirah beach and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. The shape of the structure is designed to mimic the sail of a ship. Sometimes incorrectly referred to as "the world's only seven-Star hotel", its star rating has been often debated.
